This unit teaches the students to become more appealing to an employer. By learning the barriers to effective communication and how to prevent them, they can then apply into personal scenarios.

The helpful advice given in this unit allows anyone to make themselves more appealing to an employer and potentially secure them a life-changing role in society.

Ways to Evaluate and Improve Yourself

SWOT

SWOT stands for; Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, Threats.

When performing a self-evaluation it is important to also acknowledge what you are good at and also what you should improve on. A good SWOT analysis contains a range of each and explains why they are important with context. This method is a simple way for the student to improve themselves for the future.

This is what a SWOT could look like:

PDP

PDP or Personal Development Plan is another method of personal evaluation. This method allows the person to expand more on their strengths and weaknesses and decide what tools they will need to complete the task as well as a time frame in which to improve. How much someone thinks they can improve is up to them which makes it a flexible method of self-improvement. Students can learn how to create this document and administer it in their own life to make improvements which will help them in the future.

Skills and Attributes

Unit 1 also teaches the Skills and Attributes that employers look for. It is important when going through the recruitment process that the student knows how to impress a potential employer as it increases their chances of success.

Effective communication

There are three methods of communication methods taught to a student studying unit 1:

1. General - You will look at the principles of basic communication with others.
2. Written - Unit 1 also teaches students how to communicate using writing as a medium.
3. Interpersonal - The students are taught how to communicate using body  language and facial expressions.

Communicating with others is important for job interviews and networking, it is also useful when working in a business environment.
